SPEAKER SERIES TWO:

Iosko Assenov

On August 18th, Iosko will be speaking about what it means to be bold and have Integrity - as he states “being a true leader starts with being true to yourself at all costs”. He will share his inspirational story, his trials and tribulations, and educate us about what it means to take a stand for what you believe in, work towards reaching your goals, overcome adversity, and inspire others to make social changes.

About the speaker

Iosko is a 31 year old visible minority man who immigrated and assimilated in Canada with his family. Iosko has over 10,000 hours of community service, and was nominated for an Outstanding Leadership with Youth award, and featured on CTV for his involvement with giving back to the Kitchener-Waterloo Community. His biggest passion comes from inspiring young people to be their best, coaching sports, putting together tournaments, and working as a Public servant to support the most vulnerable in our society.

Iosko has experience in both the Social Work and Law Enforcement fields. He has held positions working in youth detention, shelters, youth group homes, children’s mental health treatment, Adult Probation and Parole Officer, Auxiliary Police Officer and performed Security Services for the Mayor through a security management role, and worked in adult Corrections in a maximum security jail as a Correctional Officer, Hostage/Crisis Negotiator, Recreation Officer, and Programs Officer.

He continues to work for the Ontario Public Service within Social Services and over the past 3 years, Iosko has waged an active campaign to educate the public, and empower other officers to stand up and speak up about Human Rights violations within the workplace. In April of 2018, Iosko was featured on CBC News openly speaking out against systemic racism that exists within Corrections and advocating for change. Since then others have been coming forward doing the same.
